ISO 9002

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is concerned with standardization in both technical and non-technical fields, except electric/electronic engineering. Standardization affects units of measurement; alphabetization and transliteration; specifications for parts, materials, surfaces, processes, tools, methods of testing, and machines; and even the form in which specifications are presented.

Quality Management Guidelines

ISO 9000 is a generic name for a series of 5 standards: ISO 9000 through 9004.

ISO 9000 and 9004 are so called Quality Management Guidelines which contain guidelines only — suppliers do not register to these.

ISO 9000 defines concepts and helps an organization in selecting the proper model for its application.

ISO 9004 helps to choose the best way to integrate the standard into its business.

Quality system models

ISO 9001, 9002, and 9003 are Quality System Models.

ISO 9001 is used by suppliers who design and develop goods as well as produce, install, and service them. Sometimes a contract requires the supplier to demonstrate the capability to design and supply a product or service.

ISO 9002 proves that the supplier can control the processes required to create and deliver a product or service, meeting the specifications in the contract.

ISO 9003 is used by suppliers who need only access the quality of their final product or service by final inspection and testing routines.
