Non-NATO forces

Participation of non-NATO countries

Every NATO nation with armed forces was committing troops to SFOR. Iceland, lacking
own armed forces, provided medical support. All 18 non-NATO nations that participated in IFOR were also participating in SFOR:

PfP countries:
Albania
Austria
Bulgaria
Czech Republic
Estonia
Finland
Hungary
Latvia
Lithuania
Poland
Romania
Russia
Sweden
Ukraine

Non PfP countries:
Egypt
Ireland
Jordan
Malaysia
Morocco

Later, Slovenia and Ireland also joined SFOR, bringing the total of non-NATO participating nations to 20.

The non-NATO nations took orders from the SFOR Commander through the multinational divisional headquarters.
Several non-NATO countries were represented in SFOR headquarters in Sarajevo which had personnel from 25 NATO and non-NATO nations.
At NATO headquarters, contributing non-NATO countries were consulted at key junctures and were given the opportunity to express their views or associate themselves with decisions of the North Atlantic Council.
