Blocking Kosovo from international organizations having "dire consequences" says EU

European Parliament rapporteur Jelko Kacin warned Serbia that blocking Kosovo in all regional, European and international economic organizations is having dire consequences for the economy of both Serbia and Kosovo. Kacin also said that the relations between Serbia's ruling coalition and opposition parties in Serbia is far below the level found in developed parliamentary democracies.

Kacin said Serbia should handle the situation in its southern Sandzak region. It is Serbia's poorest region where radical islam is on the rise. Last year, 12 muslims from the region were sentenced for planning terrorist attacks, including the US embassy in Belgrade. Radical islam is a problem for the entire Balkan region and the close proximity to the EU can cause serious problems.
