Spain: Kosovo to attend EU meetings under UNMIK auspices

Spanish ambassador Inigo de Palacio Espana said that Kosovo can only attend official EU meetings only under UNMIK auspices and in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244. He said that this is the only solution, given that there is no consensus in the EU over Kosovo;s independence.

Spain is currently holding the EU presidency until June 2010 and has not recognized Kosovo's independence.

Serbia has said it will boycott tomorrow's Western Balkans conference in Slovenia if Kosovo is not represented by the UN but is allowed to attend as Kosovo.
