Gene sequence discovery might lead to live BSE tests

Researchers at the University of Calgary have identified the gene sequences linked to the brain-wasting disease Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy ("mad cow disease").

Future tests may detect the presence of BSE well before symptoms show up in the cow.

This makes me wonder. With a significant scientific discovery like this, perhaps mad cows will finally show up in the US?
