Google Reader failing to load

There is something strange going on with Google Reader. For some reason, it just does not want to load in Firefox 3. The header part with the logo shows up, but the rest of the page fails to load properly.

Because I connect to many networks, I have a software firewall running allowing me to restrict inbound/outbound connections for certain networks. I noticed that there are many blocked inbound TCP connections by Google's servers to unopened ports on my machine.

I have never noticed that before and why is outbound TCP over ports 80/443 not sufficient for Google Reader? Gmail and everything else loads just fine without the inbound connection attempts.

Update to my own post.

After connecting to a different ISP everything works. All problems solved: Gmail loads, Reader loads, and as fast as you can reasonably expect over dial-up. This once again proves my point: something is amiss with the dial-up "service" from Telus. In this case, all hardware/software remained the same, only the phone number to dial up to changed. (And no, there are no specific rules in my software firewall that make an exception to one or the other ISP.)

Calling tech support always proves fruitless: it always is something on my end: either modem, laptop, software, or the phone line gets blamed. Sometimes I even receive a helpful hint: just cancel dial-up. Believe me, I will. As soon as I find some kind of wireless internet here in the sticks I will cut all ties with Telus, including phone.

They know the problems , I think. They know they are mighty and they also know some clients can't do anything against that problem with dial up. Perhaps, some day.....
