Google's new favicon

Google has changed its favicon, from a capital G to a lower case g. What exactly the reason is, only Google knows. In my humble opinion this is inconsistent with the Google logo, which has the capital G. It looks strange, the lower case in the favicon and the capital in the logo in the main browser window. Also, the lower case g resembles the number 8 on my hi res screen. Why I am taking the time to write about this, I do not know. Probably because I am spending so much time using Google's services and I could not help but notice it.
