English officials in Swansea on the UK's west coast needed to put up a sign to divert heavy traffic away from a residential area, the text was No entry for heavy goods vehicles. Residential site only. When they asked for a translation in Welsh, the response by email was Nid wyf yn y swyddfa ar hyn o bryd. Anfonwch unrhyw waith i'w gyfieithu.
They took the answer for granted without proofing and the sign was printed.
A New Zealand microlight's engine died of fuel starvation and the two pilots prayed the plane would make it over a ridge. It did. Over the ridge? A small airfield they did not know existed. They came to a stop near a 20-ft sign reading "Jesus is Lord — The Bible."
