Google reCAPTCHA with Firefox Focus on iOS

If you have Firefox Focus installed and enabled on iOS then Google reCAPTCHA challenges are filtered out. Depending on the site configuration you’ll likely see an error after submitting a form and wonder what is going on, because you never saw the challenge.

The only solution I know of right now is to change the default settings in Firefox Focus.

Start Firefox Focus and go to the settings, by tapping on the gear icon in the top right.

Gave up on Flickr

I have just canceled my Pro subscription. It was scheduled to renew in two days from now. I also deleted almost all of my thousands of photos from the service, most of which were set to friends and/or family.

YouTube: an error occurred, please try again later

Since a day or so I am unable to play back any video from YouTube. This is definitely not isolated to a particular machine or browser: all machines on my home network have the same problem, regardless of the browser.

Now, I know I don't have the fastest of connections as I am using EVDO from Telus with an estimated 1Mbps — I am optimistic here. I am not fond of Telus but it's all I have, but I'm not sure whether there is a problem with YouTube or the EVDO connection.

Can't login to FriendFeed from phone

Every time I try to login to my FriendFeed account from my Treo 755p phone with the Blazer 4.5 browser (Palm OS 5.4.9), I get this error: “Communication error: The page download could not be completed. Please try again later.”

FriendFeed login error
OK, clear as mud.

That only happens with FriendFeed. I haven't been able to find a cause yet. I have emptied the cache, etc, but it doesn't help. It could be SSL related.

Roz Savage to embark on stage 2 to Tuvalu

Roz Savage's site

After having completed the first leg from San Francisco to Hawaii last September, Roz Savage will soon embark on the second leg of her journey. In about three weeks she will depart from Hawaii and head for Tuvalu.

Are my sites up?

There already was Down for everyone or just me (see July 29, 2008), that lets you plug in a single URL. Now you can use Are my sites up from Chris Coyier that allows you to monitor up to 50 sites and will send you an email alert if one of the sites is down.

The checks are performed every 15 minutes.

The email it sends you when your site is down makes you feel a little better. :-)

Your website at http://planken.org is down, and the internet is just a little bit lonelier without it. Would you mind checking on it, please?

And the notification when it is back up, even better:

Your website at http://planken.org is back up. The internet thanks you!

Home Depot: you can do it, we cannot help

We ordered a Rheem propane water heater, 40 gallon, 36,000 BTU, nothing fancy. At the Home Depot we paid $975. Later, I checked the Home Depot web site: the exact same water heater was listed there for $575.

The store's duty manager made up all kinds of excuses: the website was probably the US site (wrong), the website does not have overhead like a store does and can offer items cheaper (wrong, the website clearly states "available in store only").

Quotably is useless

Quotably is still absolutely useless. Whatever Twitter account I check, Quotably RSS feeds always seems to lag days or weeks behind.

Take Roz Savage's tweets, Twitter shows the latest posts, Quotably lists the last post as being from 21 days ago. I understand that there will invariably be some lag, but this is ridiculous.

No matter how nice the idea is, I have removed all Quotably RSS feeds from my reader and replaced them with the original Twitter feeds.
