On June 12, 1999, the first KFOR troops entered the province of Kosovo. On June 20, 1999 KFOR announced that all FRY military and police units departed Kosovo. NATO formally terminated the air campaign against the FRY.
The NATO-led peace keeping force will consist of some 55,000 troops. Each country operates in an assigned sector, just like SFOR operations in Bosnia. The following countries contribute troops to Operation Joint Guardian. KFOR has not reached its full strength; as of July 14, 1999, some 32,000 troops were deployed. Eventually these are the number of troops deployed by each country:
