Serbia's draft resolution adopted at meeting UN General Assembly

During the meeting of the UN General Assembly, the revised, non-binding resolution by Serbia was unanimously passed at the 192-nation assembly. The resolution acknowledges the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice that the Kosovo secession was not unlawful. It also calls for a dialog between Serbia and Kosovo but the status of Kosovo will not be discussed.

In return for its climbdown, several European foreign ministers argued that Serbia should be rewarded with an acceleration of its EU membership bid.

The meeting was delayed by two hours after Serbian foreign minister Vuk Jeremic requested that a delegation appeared from Kosovo, including president Fatmir Sejdiu, prime minister Hashim Thaci and foreign minister Skender Hyseni. The situation was settled and the Kosovo delegation was allowed to attend after the US, Germany, the UK, Italy, and France, invited the Kosovo representatives as guests.
