Separate genocide charges against Karadzic

UN prosecutors filed a second genocide charge against Radovan Karadzic. The amended indictment includes two genocide charges — referring to a 1992 campaign of ethnic cleansing against Muslims and Croats in Bosnia and the 1995 Srebrenica massacre of 8,000 Muslim men by Bosnian Serb forces.

The original indictment covered both charges in a single count of genocide. With the new indictment, there will be 11 charges.

The separate charges reduce the number of allegations prosecutors are citing to support their charges — meaning they would have to call fewer witnesses.
