UN chief prosecutor: limited progress Serbia

Balkanblog — May 23, 2008 - 15:39

The UN chief prosecutor Serge Brammertz said limited progress has been made in Serbia's cooperation. In a report that will be presented to the UN Security Council in June, Brammetz reports that the four remaining fugitives Radovan Karadzic, Ratko Mladic, Stojan Zupljanin and Goran Had are "within reach" of the Serbian government, but that Serbia has yet to find and arrest them. The tribunal has been denied access to military archives, documents were not transferred and witness protection is insufficient.

The EU — in particular the Netherlands and Belgium — demanded that bringing those fugitives to justice is one of the demands before before Serbia can join the EU.
